A junior high special education teacher and basketball coach at Mt. Hermon School was arrested Wednesday by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office and charged with pornography involving juveniles.

On Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office arrested Murry J. “Joey” Duncan Jr. again, this time on a charge of aggravated incest.

Murry was in jail with a bond set at $50,000 when the second charge was filed. No bond had been set on the second charge by Thursday afternoon, Chief Deputy Mike Haley said.

Washington Parish Schools Superintendent Darrell Fairburn said Duncan is on administrative leave from the school until the matter is adjudicated.

Fairburn said he is not currently aware of any incidents involving students on campus. He said school system officials will continue working with the Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.

“I’d like to assure the parents that protecting our students is of the utmost importance,” Fairburn added.

Haley said the investigation began with a complaint about sexual abuse involving a juvenile.

The Sheriff’s Office worked with the Department of Children and Family Services and Rayburn Correctional Center in the investigation, which led to Duncan’s arrest.

Additional charges could be forthcoming in Washington Parish and other jurisdictions, Haley added.

When confronted with the allegations, Haley said Duncan confessed to improper behavior with juveniles and possession of child pornography.

Haley said Duncan told investigators, “I have been battling these demons for a long time.”

Haley said Duncan consented to a search of his residence, where child pornography was seized. A thorough analysis of his computer, thumb drives and other accessories is being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office, he added.

In addition to teaching and coaching at the school, Duncan has been involved in other activities at athletic, church and camp events that placed him in contact with juveniles.

Haley said Duncan admitted to improper sexual behavior with at least two juveniles at a church summer camp held in another parish, incidents currently under investigation.

Haley said any parent or guardian who has any concerns about possible improper contact between Duncan and their child or any other children is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 839-3434.
