Blanche Marguerite “Peggy” Major, a longtime Bogalusa resident, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Covington at the age of 84.

After a peaceful end to a long decline in her health, she was reunited with her husband of 63 years, longtime Daily News publisher Marion L. “Lou” Major Sr., who died in 2013. A native of New Orleans, she was the daughter of Martin Ripp and Bertha Fisher, and a resident of Bogalusa from 1950 to 2007. Before moving to be with her daughter, she and Lou Major Sr. resided in Slidell after Hurricane Katrina.

Peggy was artistically creative, excelling in candle-making, stained glass, costumery (the Bogalusa Children’s Coronation), and large Christmas decoration tableaus. She was also active in Mill Town Players and Community Concerts. She bred, raised and showed dachshunds and then great danes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and her husband.

She is survived by her daughter, Christie Hall and husband Rick of Covington; three sons, Lou Major Jr. of Stafford, Va., Steven Major and wife Renee of Cleveland, Ga., and Jason Major and wife Deanna of Singapore; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

No funeral service is planned.
