Evelyn Bennett Carr, 77, a resident of Franklinton, died just before midnight Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

Evelyn, who was born on Oct. 16, 1936, was a gentle woman and a devoted wife and mother who lived her life with honesty, optimism, selflessness and a love for her family and her Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton, where she was a member of the A.W. Robbins Sunday school class. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. She visited Europe and all throughout the United States, including Hawaii and a recent cruise to Alaska. She was a former clerical worker with the Louisiana Department of Transportation.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Franklin Carr of Franklinton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Val Adams of Walker; a son and daughter-in-law, William F. “Bill” Carr IV and Kitty Wong of Seattle; three grandchildren and spouses, Bevin and Randy Barringer and Ben and Brittney Adams, all of Baton Rouge, and Blythe and Stephen Picard of Metairie; three great-grandchildren, June, Penny and Elliot; a sister, Mary Bob of Big Lake, Texas; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David Bennett and Max and Anne Bennett, all of El Paso, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Gail Bennett, Virginia Carr Phillips and Betty Carr; a brother-in-law, Ray Shipley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Glen Bennett and Cora McNamee Bennett; a brother, John Bennett; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Melba Bennett; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Bennett, Betty Carr Shipley, Billie and Jimmy Warren, Buford Phillips, Layton Carr and Charles Bob.

Visitation will be Friday, April 11 at Crain Funeral Home, from 11 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Paul Watts and the Rev. Dale Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Arthritis Foundation (arthritis.org) or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (donate.lls.org).
