The Covington Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a Franklinton man wanted on charges of aggravated battery.

At 1:55 a.m. Friday, March 7, officers from the Covington Police Department responded to a report of an aggravated battery outside a Covington bar room. At the scene, a victim was found with facial trauma after being hit in the face with a bottle. Medical attention was immediately summoned, and the victim was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment.

During the investigation it was determined that Michael Mendheim, 22, of 16357 Gill Road in Franklinton, was involved. Officers from the Covington Police Department and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Mendheim on Sunday, March 30, but he evaded capture and is on the run.

He has been charged with felony aggravated battery, which is punishable by up to 10 years in jail, and/or a $5,000 fine.

To bring this matter to a close, Mendheim is encouraged to turn himself in to any local law enforcement agency. Anyone with current information regarding the whereabouts of Mendheim is asked to contact the Covington Police Department at 892-8500, or contact your local law enforcement authority.

This is the second incident in the space of a month involving Mendheim outside a local establishment, hitting someone in the face with a bottle. He was arrested and jailed for the other, unrelated, aggravated battery on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Names of the victims from both cases are being withheld due to the ongoing nature of the current investigation and pending court proceedings.
