HOLSTON

John R. Holston, born in Orvisburg, Miss., on August 8, 1925, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at his residence, at the age of 88.

He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Kenton.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Holmes Holston; three sons, John (Kim) Holston of Amarillo, Texas, Glen (Jeannie) Holston of Pensacola, Fla. and Jonathan (Karen) Holston of Bogalusa; three daughters, Dana Cirelli (Jim), Terri Rutledge (Joe) and Sonya Flynn (Ronnie); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Liza Holston; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman (Mary) Holston, Horace (Margie) Holston and Hollis (Jaunita) Holston; and five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lena Hill (Carl), Lillian Bordeaux (Floyd), Lois Broome (Vic), Louise Whitten (J.D.) and Pearl Anderson (Andy).

Visitation was held Monday, March 24 at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. and resumed Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. The Rev. Marcus Rosa conducted the services, and the interment followed at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
