The battle with pain is over and the angel wings are hers as Linda Sue King peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2014, at the age of 69. 

Linda spent more than 33 years working for the Washington Parish School Board in the cafeteria of Enon Elementary School. For most of that time, even up until her retirement, she served as manager of the cafeteria. Linda loved to cook, but her greatest joy was the children. They all knew her as “Mrs. Linda” and loved her. There are countless stories of how she gave milk money or recess money to many children when they didn’t have any or perhaps lost theirs. Throughout the last few years it was not unusual to have young adults stop her in a store just to hug her and say, “Do you remember me?,” which she always did. 

She was a devoted wife to her husband, a precious mother to her daughter, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Linda and her husband, J.M., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 10, 2013, and she was looking forward to making 51 years. She was a faithful member of the Church of United Faith in Bogalusa.

Survivors include her husband, James M. King; one daughter, Rachel and husband Ronald Sims; one sister, Sylvia Drake; and one brother, David and wife Marie Ridgdell of East Flat Rock, N.C. She was the proud Memaw of four grandchildren, Rodney Sims, Ethan Sims, Amanda Strange and Wayne Sims, and seven great-grandchildren. She was also a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, “Buddy” Ridgdell and Wilda Ridgdell, and her brother, Ray Ridgdell.

Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, which included visitation on Friday from 5-9 p.m. and continuing from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday. The service was Saturday at 11 a.m., led by her pastor, the Rev. Charles Warren. Entombment was in the Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum.
