HOLCOMBE

Georgine Knight Holcombe, 92, peacefully left her earthly home on Monday, March 17, 2014, at Resthaven Living Center, where the staff had provided her with loving and compassionate care since October.

Georgine was born in Dexter, Miss., on Aug. 3, 1921. She married Austin Holcombe on Nov. 13, 1944, in St. Petersburg, Fla. The couple made their home in Bogalusa and their only son, Bill, was born in 1946. Both of these loves have preceded her in death, as well as a grandson, Michael Scott Holcombe.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Faron Wayne Holcombe, Shelia McGehee and Tanya Adams; nine great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Lois Mitchell.

Our Georgine was a busy little lady during her 92.5 years on God’s earth, and her church family at First Presbyterian Church consider her to be the ultimate role model and humble servant. She worked at Crown Zellerbach from 1951 until 1986, and then became a Pink Lady at the Bogalusa Medical Center from 1986 until September of 2013.

Georgine Knight Holcombe was the first woman in Washington Parish to serve as a juror. Although small in statue, she was huge on being active and getting things done. She belonged to the Civic League, Ingleside Literary, Women of the Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Business and Professional Women, Republican Women, World Day of Prayer chairman, treasurer of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a precinct captain at the Lakeview polling booth for many years. We were so privileged at the church to have her as a Sunday school teacher until September of 2012.

Georgine was loved by many and will be dearly missed by those who knew her best.

Burial will take place Wednesday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Ponemah Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Jim Stayton.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the beloved church that she worked in for 70 years will be gratefully accepted. Well done, thy good and faithful servant!
