Ben’s Ford beats Centreville

Ben’s Ford defeated Centreville 4-3 in the opener of a doubleheader Friday.

Shelby Culpepper threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs on just three hits with 12 strikeouts and four walks. At the plate, he drove in a run by coaxing a base on balls.

Daniel Pittman recorded two singles and an RBI, while Ryan Byrd and Josh Crain both singled in the game.

The second game was suspended by darkness with Centreville batting in the seventh in a 10-10 tie. Centreville had a runner on second and one out.

Ben’s Ford coach Tommy Pittman said the game would resume later in the season if it has playoff implications.

Garrett Pounds hit his first high school varsity home run, a two-run shot, in the game. Daniel Pittman drove in three and tallied three times, and Destin Pittman doubled. Josh Crain posted two hits and an RBI, while Culpepper and Will Owens both had a hit and Byrd had a sacrifice fly.

Franklinton goes 2-1 in Sumner tournament

Franklinton posted a 2-1 mark in the Jewel Sumner Tournament Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Demons opened with an 8-7 victory over Albany Friday, as Hannah Adams hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh to score Faith Chauvin for the winning run.

Adams also threw a complete game in the circle to get the win.

Bethany Sandifer singled twice and drove in two runs. Shelby McDonald doubled and posted two RBIs, while Haley Sanford singled twice with an RBI. Baylee Mixon recorded one hit with a run batted in, while Kalie Buffinet doubled, coaxed four walks and scored twice. Macy Purvis also doubled in the victory.

Franklinton played two games Saturday and split the lopsided contests.

FHS won the first game 8-1 over Holden. The Lady Demons led 2-1 after 4.5 innings but scored six runs in the fifth to gain a big lead.

Mixon singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Laken Spears singled with an RBI. Sanford singled and doubled, Chauvin doubled and Adams posted a single. Buffinet finished with two RBIs.

Adams threw another complete game, allowing no earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

FHS’ final game was an 11-1 five-inning loss to Sumner.

The Lady Demons were hurt by seven errors in that game.

Austen Felder singled and posted an RBI, while Mixon, Buffinet, Sanford and Spears all singled.
