TONEY

Doris Leona Strahan Toney, 78, a resident of Baton Rouge, died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Landmark of Baton Rouge.

Doris was born on Sept. 21, 1935, and was a former Civil Service employee of the U.S. Geological Survey at Stennis Space Center. She enjoyed bird watching and gardening. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Slidell, where she had previously been very active in Sunday school. She enjoyed collecting owl figurines and all types of bells.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Toney Miller and Wayne Miller of Baton Rouge and Judy Toney Dale of Franklinton; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Terry Toney of Mt. Hermon; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Miller of Frisco, Texas, Nathan Miller of Covington, Phillip Miller of Houston, Jason Crawford of Pensacola, Fla., Jessi Kramer of Beeville, Texas, Justin Dale of Cincinnati, Jordan Dale of Franklinton and Zane Toney of Mt. Hermon; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy Rester of Baton Rouge and Pat and Buddy Hall of Madisonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Billie Strahan of Amite; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Toney; her parents, Clenzie Strahan and Velma Lee Strahan; a brother, Earl Strahan; and two sisters, Elizabeth “Dib” Brown and Nell Krueger.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 8 at Crain Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at noon in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Paul Watts officiating. Burial followed in the San Pedro Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
