ELFER

Whitney Matthew Elfer, 61, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday March 5, 2014, at his home in Franklinton.

Born on March 22, 1952, he was a longtime resident of Harahan before moving to Washington Parish after Hurricane Katrina. He had been a pipefitter at Avondale Shipyards for more than 20 years. He was an avid fan of all types of sports, and a motorcycle enthusiast who loved riding and working on them. Whitney was forever a very loving and supportive husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria Defusco Elfer of Franklinton; his mother, Eunice Bergeron Elfer of Picayune, Miss.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Alicia Elfer of Harahan, Chantell Elfer of Franklinton, and Nicole and Jason Melerine, Victoria Elfer and Kristin and David Zoller, all of Chalmette; a son, Colton Loomis of Chalmette; 11 grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman A. Jr. and Sue Elfer of Picayune, Wayne A. and Pamela Elfer of McNeil, Miss., and Johhny and Katie Rivers of Covington; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Tracey and Danny Garland of Picayune and Terri and Gary Sanders of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His father, Herman A. Elfer Sr., a sister, Sharlene Rumore, and a niece, Michelle Gallagher, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 8 at Crain Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until time for the funeral service at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Tom Descant officiating.
