We have been inside dressed all warm and fuzzy, napping a little extra, enjoying each other’s company. Just to make everything run a little smoother we’ve had homemade vegetable beef soup with cornbread. We waited a few days then we came up with a big pot of chicken and rice soup. Now folks, that’s living.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new residents and their families to our family. We are glad to take care of your family member when you are no longer able to meet their needs. They will be introduced to staff members who will be meeting their needs, day and night. So they won’t feel alone we will guide them through a transition period, where they will be visited, invited and reminded of all activities of their choosing, and they will be assisted to, from and during all activities of choice. We have representatives of all religious denominations who come in for church services. We also have several groups who come in and perform for the residents. On occasion the residents will say, “No one ever told me how much fun we could have here.”

Sometimes the laughter and the music do get a little loud. Last week we gathered around the tables to shell some pecans a family member gave us to make candy and pecan pies. Fran Harry came over to the tables to see what all the laughter was about, and she ended up with a big smile herself. What’s not to like about this: a group of women shelling pecans, telling stories and having coffee, cappuccino or a juice of choice.

The residents here can out-spell and out-think most, and they know how to have a great time. I wish our youth were in their league. But seriously, our youth will grow up to be fine human beings. They are our future leaders, and when their time comes they will step up to the plate and take their place in history. In other words, they will make us proud!

Sometime it feels like we just need proof that we’re not forgotten. Well, let me tell you, we had a wonderful surprise when Debbie Schilling and friends from LSU came by to visit us on Valentine’s Day with gifts and candy for everyone. It just made the day for the residents. It is so wonderful to have friends like this in our community. Thanks so much guys, we love you!
