BARBER

Melvin Lee Barber Jr., 51, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at his home in Byram, Miss.

He was born in New Orleans to Melvin Lee Barber Sr. and the late Edith Roy Barber. He moved to Byram from Covington in April 2006. He was of the Baptist Faith, was a machinist and welder, and he enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, racing cars and spending time with his grandchildren. He especially loved his children and grandchildren, and was very proud of their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Barber of Byram; his father, Melvin Lee Barber Sr.; four sons, Michael Wayne (Jennifer) Barber of Palm Bay, Fla., Kevin Lee (Kalisha) Barber of Kissimee, Fla., Hunter Hyatt of Lucedale, Miss., and William Pugh of Houma; three daughters, Elena (Nick) Allen of Pass Christian, Miss., Kaylee Barber of Gulfport, Miss., and Leah Dawn (Christopher) Barnhardt of Clinton, Miss.; a brother, Johnny (Rachel) Barber of Bogalusa; three sisters, Brenda (Edward) Downey of Slidell, Debra (Chris) Young of Coventry, R.I., and Erica Barber of Bogalusa; and his grandchildren, Emma, Lily, Trent, Kiari, Kara, Jaiden, Madison, Kristin, Johan and Knox.

His sister, Vickie Crawford of Pearl River, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 2 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram from 2 p.m. until time for the memorial service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
