Pine suffered a 58-50 setback Monday to host Jonesboro-Hodge in the regional round of the Class 2A Louisiana High School Athletic Association state basketball playoffs.

Breyanna Brown led 12th-seeded Pine with 20 points, and Shay Seals scored nine.

Coach Eddie Vaughn said the two areas Pine had trouble with in the game were turnovers and free-throw shooting. The Lady Raiders committed 18 turnovers and converted on just 11 of 35 attempts (31.4 percent) from the line against the fifth-seeded team.

“We did not really give ourselves a chance,” Vaughn said.

Vaughn said the Lady Raiders trimmed the lead to one twice but could not make the next necessary play to push further.

Pine, the District 8-2A champion, capped a historic season at 22-10.

Monday’s loss ended a 10-game winning streak, and the Lady Raiders won district for the first time since the 2001-02 season. They went undefeated in league play for the first time since the 1993-94 campaign.

The Lady Raiders had just three seniors, Seals, Paris Kennedy and Katelyn Jenkins.

Jonesboro-Hodge advanced to the quarterfinals and travels to fourth-seeded Pickering.
