Phillip Ray Thomas Sr., 76, died at 12:32 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at his residence in Thomas.

Born on Sept. 14, 1937, he was a member of Thomas Baptist Church and a retired metal worker with Kaiser Aluminum. He loved hunting deer and turkey and also fishing at the camp in Kentwood. He loved working alongside his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Jones Thomas of Thomas; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Billy Gerald of Pine; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Joetta Thomas of Thomas; four grandchildren and spouses, Cass Gerald and Whitney Creel, Chris and Frances Thomas, Savanna and B.B. Schexnider and Gage and Macey Thomas; a great-granddaughter, Brylan Schexnider; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Jenette and Tom Ahlman of Thomas, Ledonia Hill, Ada Merle Menish and Isabelle Haymann, all of Bogalusa; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dewey and Frankie Thomas and Douglas Thomas, all of Thomas; a former daughter-in-law, Darlene Moran of Sandy Hook, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Commodore and Marie Ard Thomas; a son, Phillip Ray Thomas Jr.; a brother and sister-in-law, Simon and Elizabeth Thomas; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Herman Thomas and Waver and Houston Jordan.

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 22 at Crain Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Denman Brumfield and the Rev. Patrick Magee officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.
