During March and April the Varnado Store Museum will exhibit “Washington Parish Art and Artists,” and all adult artists in the parish are asked to participate by loaning one piece of their work to be displayed.

This parish has an abundance of artistic talent and the museum hopes the artists will join in to show it off to museum visitors. Work in any medium will be welcomed and a short bio or card to display with the piece of art world be appreciated. In addition, work by deceased artists of our parish will also be included. Adult artists who wish to participate are asked to bring their art to the museum on Wednesday, Feb. 26, between the hours of 1 and 2:30 p.m.

Museum officials are asking that artists share tabletop or standing easels if possible. Some of the art will be hung, and some will be displayed on tables or free standing.

This exhibit will also include a student art show and competition in the month of April. The museum will be seeking sponsors for this competition as the winning students in three age categories will be awarded cash prizes, and the first place winners will also take a cash prize to their schools to be used in their art programs.

Students from all parish schools and those who are home schooled will be invited to participate. This show and competition proved to be very successful last year when it was initiated and resulted in a display of about 250 pieces of student artwork.

More details will be published later and all schools will be contacted.
