People from the community and club members alike flocked to Centenary Methodist Church Thursday for the Franklinton Woman’s Club’s major civic event, the annual Love Coffee.

Members put together a festive, Valentine’s Day-themed spread of refreshments, baked goods and other sweet treats, including a king cake donated by Sugar Shack. The table was also adorned with flowers donated by Winn-Dixie.

The event was a benefit for the Help Center of Churches and the Franklinton Association for Challenged Citizens, better known as the Washington Parish Activity Center.

Attendees, including individuals, business owners and public officials, brought in their contributions, and many sweethearts joined in the event. As Bonnie Pope provided music on piano, participants socialized and snacked on refreshments.

President Martha Jones said the coffee, always held around Valentine’s Day, has taken place for many years and has become a community-wide tradition.

She said there is always a good response.

The club’s members are from Franklinton and the surrounding area, and Jones said various social and civic activities are organized throughout the year.
