NAUMAN

Norbert John Nauman, 88, a resident of Franklinton, died at 2:52 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa, on June 10, 1925, he was a veteran of World War II who served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed in the meat packing industry by the Dubuque Packing Company and served on the Board of Directors of Dupaco Credit Union. When he retired he moved to Franklinton and became the co-owner of Parish Packing Company. He continued to work in the meat packing business for several years in South Bend, Ind. After his second retirement he returned to Franklinton.

Norbert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the local American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to play golf, and he enjoyed gardening and sharing the harvest with family and friends.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Chara and Tommy Thiebaud of Franklinton; four grandchildren and spouses, John and Katie Scholl Thiebaud,

Dyan and Kelly Gunnell Thiebaud, Katie Thiebaud and Schuyler Thiebaud; three great-grandchildren, Miley Thiebaud, Flynn Thiebaud and Dean Thiebaud; eight siblings and spouses, John and Ann Nauman, LaVonne Hoffman, Germaine Freiburger, Teresa Kroll, Agnes and Robert O’Neill, Herman and Marge Nauman,

Adele Peters and Margaret and Ken Ziegenfuss; a sister-in-law, Eilene Nauman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leora Small Nauman; his parents, Herman J. Nauman and Mary Susan Jungblut Nauman; siblings, Mildred Wirzbach, Henry Nauman and Gregory Nauman; a stepbrother, Eldon Nauman; four stepsisters, Sister Eleanor Nauman, Lucille Beau, Marion Bales and Clara Spoden; and five brothers-in-law, Robert Hoffman, Loras Freiburger, Gene Kroll, George Peters and Bob Wirzbach.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 14 at Crain Funeral Home from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until time for the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Norbert will be laid to rest later alongside his wife in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa, Iowa.
