Doreather Lott received her wings Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at the age of 102. She bid farewell to her loved ones and entered the mansion that her heavenly Father had promised, and took her place in God’s choir.

She was born in Ponchatoula on March 10, 1911, the youngest of four children born to Will and Laura Shanks.

She united with Good Hope Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, and was baptized by Rev. Versie Smith. After moving to Bogalusa in 1978, she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. J.W. Porter, where she continued to sing for the Lord. When her health begun to fail she joined Sweet Beulah Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. James Magee Sr., to be with her daughter, Joyce, and became a faithful member of the Pastor Aide and Senior Mission.

God blessed Doreather with eight children.

Her memory will forever live in the hearts of her family, including three daughters, Betty (Nelson) Johnson of Gulfport, Miss., Joyce Joiner of Bogalusa and Marilyn Joseph of Ponchatoula; one son, Lionel Weathersby of Gulfport; a granddaughter she loved as a daughter, Jackie Braziel of Ponchatoula; daughters-in-law, Gerald Cage Tate, Barbara Weathersby, Regina Roberts Greely, Terri Tate and Faye Brister; three special cousins, Laura Mae Joseph and Ella Mae Dangerfield, both of Springfield, and Carrie Williams of Kenner; someone special she loved like a daughter, Mary Thomas of Bogalusa; 25 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
