Houston Lamar Killens, 74, of Bogalusa, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014.

Houston was born on Oct. 30, 1939, to George W. Killens and Bernice Barnes Killens. He attended church at Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Crossroads, Miss. He married Mary Saraceno in Houston. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, glazier and construction worker for many years.

Houston “Coach” Killens was an avid basketball player and coached little league baseball and football over three decades in both Bogalusa and Houston.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Saraceno Killens; one daughter, Pam Mizell of Bogalusa; five sons, Scott Alan Killens and fiancée, Linda Calamito, of Rockland, Mass.; Kevin Lamar Killens and wife, Brenda, of Leander, Texas; Charles Houston Killens and wife, Gwen, of Cedar Park, Texas; Lee Mizell of Pine; and Jason Lamar Killens of Bogalusa; a brother, Junior Ray Killens and wife, Frances, of Crossroads; a sister, Mary Killens Church of Crossroads; his grandchildren, Jonathon Baggett and wife, Ashley, Kurt Killens, Brandon Mizell, Brendan Calamito, Kevin Killens Jr., Brittany Killens, Braden Killens, Natalie Baggett Dukes and husband, Kelly, and Courtney Mizell; and many nieces and nephews.

Houston was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bernice Killens, and a nephew, Chris Ray Killens.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, 610 Avenue F in Bogalusa, from 5-9 p.m.

Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Oneal Ramage, pastor of Mitchell Chapel Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell Chapel Cemetery.
