Pine loses to M.L. King Charter

Pine suffered a 66-49 non-district loss to M.L. King Charter in non-district action at home Friday.

Cody Cooper topped the Raiders with 12 points, while Trey Cooper finished with 10.

Mt. Hermon rallies past PJP II

Mt. Hermon erased a 46-39 deficit midway through the fourth quarter and beat Pope John Paul II 53-50 in District 8-2A play at home Monday.

The game went down to the wire. Curtis Martin, who finished with 14 points, knocked down two free throws with eight seconds left to make it 53-50. PJP missed a potential game tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Martin was one of three Yellow Jackets in double figures. Jessie Pouncey scored 19 points, and Corterio Williams scored 16. Joseph McGee added four in the win.

Mt. Hermon is 7-10 overall and 3-2 in district.

Varnado struggles in loss to Lab

Varnado connected on just three of 22 (13.6 percent) 3-point attempts and was eight for 15 (53.3) from the free-throw line in a 55-47 District 6-1A home loss to Southern Lab Monday.

Keith Allen led Varnado (16-8, 0-3) with 13 points, while D.J. Jefferson had nine and Dominique Harry posted seven. Nick Darden, Delrick Abrams and Allen Alexander all had four, and Preston Spikes and Damon Kirsh contributed two apiece.

Mt. Hermon defeats Hannan

Mt. Hermon’s Jessie Pouncey scored 29 points and Corterio Williams finished with 20 in a 66-57 District 8-2A victory over Archbishop Hannan at home Friday.

Joseph McGee finished with eight, with Curtis Martin a point behind. Marshaun Dillon added two in the win.

Varnado falls at Christian Life

Varnado’s Keith Allen scored 19 points in an 80-55 setback to District 6-1A foe Christian Life on the road Friday.

Dominique Harry finished with 13, while D.J. Jefferson had 10. Delrick Abrams put up six points, while Allen Alexander added four and Nick Darden three.

Bogalusa loses to Jewel Sumner

Bogalusa freshman Tremarcus Levi scored 25 points, but the Lumberjacks fell short in a 64-60 District 8-3A loss to Jewel Sumner on the road Friday.

Billy Mingo finished with 12 points for the Lumberjacks (0-16, 0-4), while Tyran Holloway and Tym Toussaint both had eight. Kenyatta Scott posted three, and Trey Thomas and Tré Short added two each.

Mt. Hermon downs PJP II

Mt. Hermon jumped out to a 27-8 lead en route to a 48-22 District 8-2A victory over Pope John Paul II at home Monday.

Dorothy Taylor was Mt. Hermon’s leading scorer with 17 points, while Kiara Williams scored 12. Nicole Riley finished with eight, with Jada Norman scoring four. Angelica LeRay and Taylor Hughes put up three each, and Paris Mack had two.

Mt. Hermon is 4-15 overall and 3-2 in district.

Varnado rolls past Southern Lab

Varnado’s Errielle Stewart scored 18 points in a 46-35 victory over Southern Lab in District 6-1A play at home Monday.

Tarralyn Moses finished with 14 points, while Yienna Kemp had seven. Bianca Holmes posted four, and Kenisha Kemp added three.

Bogalusa falls short at Sumner

Bogalusa fell to Jewel Sumner 60-56 in a District 8-3A game on the road Friday.

JaMya Young led BHS with 17 points. Nylijah Mingo was next with 15. Erin Crawford, Jasmine May and D’sha Rankins all posted six, with Shanekqua Mingo at four and Amia Peters adding two.

Pine coasts past M.L. King Charter

Pine’s Breyanna Brown scored 18 points and helped the Lady Raiders roll past M.L. King Charter 48-12 in non-district action at Pine Friday.

Paris Kennedy scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds, while Laken Breedlove finished with eight points and four boards. Shay Seals logged five points, four rebounds and four steals. Keundra Crosby had four points and four rebounds, and Kaylee Turnage added three points, three steals and two boards.

Mt. Hermon had three players in double figures and defeated Archbishop Hannan 66-39 in District 8-2A action at Mt. Hermon Friday.

Nicole Riley topped Mt. Hermon with 15 points, while Dorothy Taylor had 13 and Kiara Williams had 12. Jada Norman, Diamond Pouncey and Paris Mack scored six each, Angelica LeRay added five and Taylor Hughes contributed three.

Varnado’s Errielle Stewart scored 19 points and Tarralyn Moses finished with 15 in a 72-28 victory over Christian Life in District 6-1A play on the road Friday.

Ke’arria Green scored eight, while Bianca Homes recorded seven and Kenisha Kemp added five. Sequoya Kemp, Breanna Holmes and Tyquashow Allen all scored four each, and Yienna Kemp added two.
