MCKENZIE

Peggy Thomas McKenzie, 71, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at her home in the Forest Haven Community.

Born on Dec. 7, 1942, she was a longtime member of Forest Haven Missionary Baptist Church and she had been a bank teller at Washington Bank. She enjoyed shopping and having a good meal with friends and family. Peggy loved reading and spent all the time she could with her family. She was always a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Herbert McKenzie of the Forest Haven Community; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristi McKenzie Stogner and Russ Stogner of McComb, Miss.; one granddaughter, Haley Thomas; three step-grandchildren, Jeremy Stogner, Josh Stogner and Amanda (Chris) Faucheaux; one step-great-grandchild, Madison Faucheaux; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Cooper and Anita and David Wood, all of the Forest Haven Community; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Diane and Wayne Taylor of the Hilltop Community, Debbie and Lewis Murray of Bogalusa, David and Brenda McKenzie of Raleigh, N.C., and Denise McKenzie of Stateline; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Lois Thomas; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hershel McKenzie and Marcelle Breland McKenzie; brothers-in-law, Donald McKenzie and Billy Cooper; and nephews, Todd Cooper and Chad Cooper.

Visitation was Saturday, Feb. 1 at Forest Haven Missionary Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 1 p.m., with Elder Richard Magee and Elder Clyde Cooper officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to her friends and to the women of her church family for all their support during these difficult times, as well as to Camellia Hospice for their care.

Pallbearers will be her nephews Shalin Wood, Brian Taylor, Daniel Murray, Patrick Murray and Virgil Murray, and great-nephew Trevor Cooper. Honorary pallbearers are David Alan Thomas, Dwight Salley, Huey Seal, Charles Winston Kennedy, Jimmy Earl Thomas, Shelby McKenzie and Danny Knight
