NEWMAN

Levon Dalton Newman, 82, a resident of Franklinton, born Aug. 6, 1931, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War in 1953 and 1954. He was an accomplished self-employed contractor for 58 years who loved spending time with his family and his pet dog, Jack. Levon enjoyed gardening and working with his cows. He was a longtime member of and enjoyed attending Mt. Zion United Pentecostal Church, where he helped to build both the old and new church sanctuaries.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ruby Estelle Busby Newman of Franklinton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Faye Newman of Franklinton and Rick Newman of Austin, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Lynn Spears and Diane and Randy Holden, all of Franklinton; seven grandchildren and spouses, Jonna and Ryan Ard, Dustin and Makayla Newman, Jared and Samantha Newman, Chad and Katie Spears, Cody Spears, Cole Holden and Cory Holden; six great-grandchildren, Ashlan, Kaylee and Kaydan Ard, Braxton Newman, Anniston Newman and Cassidy Spears; two sisters, Ruby Lee Hill and Ethel Nell Bell; a brother, James Edward Newman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Newman Sr. and Tena Crowe Newman, and brothers, Walter Newman, Jr. and Marion Newman.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday, Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will continue Wednesday at 9 a.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 am in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Leon Hickman and Jeremy Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyson Cemetery.

Pallbearers are his six grandsons, Chad Spears, Dustin Newman, Cole Holden, Cody Spears, Jared Newman and Cory Holden.
