BOOTY

Betty Jean Prine Booty, 73, died at 1:23 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at her home in Mt. Hermon.

Born June 24, 1940, Betty was a loving and caring person who enjoyed spending time with her family, often spending her time “rocking” the youngest children. She frequently did crossword puzzles and liked watching the news. She gardened and would often can the food she had grown. She was also a very good cook who loved to share with friends and family, who will always remember her chicken and dumplings and wonderful seven-layer coconut cake.

Betty was a cafeteria worker at the Jackson State Hospital before becoming the lunchroom manager of Mt. Hermon School, and later Franklinton Elementary School until she retired. She developed a relationship with the young people she saw every day, and generously helped those who were in need of food or clothing. She also worked alongside her husband and family on the dairy farm they maintained for many years.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Sonja and Phillip Kerbow, Chris Booty, Sharen Booty and Kal and Adrian Roshto, all of Mt. Hermon; five grandchildren, Alicia Kerbow, Dustin Kerbow, Ava Roshto, Grant Roshto and Luke Roshto; one great-granddaughter, Kenzie Tetreau; a sister and brother-in-law, Libby and Orea Cooper of Kentwood; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Tinka Prine and Don and Kathleen Prine, all of Kentwood, Robert and Marsha Prine of Osyka, Miss., and Ricky and Kathy Prine of Hammond; two sisters-in-law, Jo Nell Burch of Mt. Hermon and Jimmie Nell Maples of Clinton; a brother-in-law, Wilson Booty of Kentwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Woodrow Booty; a daughter, Karen Lynne Booty; and her parents, Jessie Prine and Margaret “Lib” Renfroe Prine, preceded her in death.

Visitation will take place Thursday, Dec. 12 at Crain Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m., and will continue on Friday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Percy Frazier and the Rev. Micah Rutland officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood.

Pallbearers are Dustin Kerbow, David Burch, Daniel Prine, Keith Schilling, Mitchell Prine, Scott Prine and Brad Kerbow.
