For those who plan to grow sweet potatoes in their garden next year, the LSU AgCenter is now taking orders for certified foundation sweet potato seed that is produced at the Sweet Potato Research Station in Chase. The varieties available include: Beauregard, Evangeline, Porto Rican, Texas Porto Rican, O’ Henry, Hernandez and Jewel.

The foundation sweet potatoes are available in 40-pound boxes, and the pricing is as follows: $16.50 for Beauregard, $18.50 for Evangeline, and $25 for all of the other varieties.

Orders must be placed before Jan. 22. The sweet potato foundation seed will be available in late February to early March. To place orders contact the Washington Parish Extension Office at 839-7855.
