The Washington Art Association November meeting was held in Franklinton at the home of Lenora Frazier, with co-hostesses Janis Fisher and Lorraine Roshto.

President Kaye Williams led the meeting and numerous items of business were discussed, including the minutes of the September meeting and various other reports.

Lora Lynn Fendlason coordinates the rotating gallery at the Golden Pear in Bogalusa, and possibly at the Bogalusa Medical Center. Terry Seal can be contacted for paintings to be placed in the rotating gallery in Franklinton at Riverside Medical Center.

Seal brought up the upcoming Christmas Festival gift drawing for the benefit of the Varnado Museum. She said several organizations were presenting gifts or monetary donations and asked for opinions from the art association. Janice Simmons Brodie offered to donate a painting by her mother, Dorothy Simmons, for the event. Seal accepted, and the members agreed.

Janice Branch talked about the fair posters and noted Kay Bell remains as chairman to coordinate the sale of the posters. She said members feel the posters should be the responsibility of the art association and more artists should be participating in this artistic portrayal of the fair.

The American Women’s Art Association of Baton Rouge is coordinating an upcoming trip to Dallas to view the Joaquín Sorolla exhibition at the gallery there. The trip, scheduled for Feb. 18-19, leaves Baton Rouge early Tuesday and returns late Wednesday. Ann Warner said she plans to drive to and from Baton Rouge, and those who want to ride with her should let her know. The deposit of $100 was due Dec. 1, and the balance of $125 is due by Jan. 1.

It was reported the drawing for Carl Thorp prints during the fair brought in $617. Winners of the prints were Kathy Mayer and Marsha Adams, both of Bogalusa.

One other item discussed was the lack of responses to the RSVP for the meetings. Member attendance has declined and puts a burden on hostesses in preparing the refreshments. Since many of the members are not really active, only so many can be assumed to come. There are 33 on the membership roll with only about 16 on average attending. It was agreed that meeting announcements will include RSVP regrets only.

Hostesses served refreshments prior to the business meeting. Members attending in addition to those mentioned included Louise Barber, Gregory Burris and Jane Brodie, whose sister-in-law, Eleanor Simmons, was her guest.

The next meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. in the home of Christine Beatty in Mt. Hermon.
