SANDIFER

Jim George Sandifer, 90, a resident of Franklinton, died Friday evening, Nov. 29, 2013, at Riverside Medical Center.

Born Aug. 2, 1923, he was a former heavy equipment operator with Southeast Steel Manufacturing in New Orleans and a member of Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to music and was well-known for his love of playing the fiddle. He often jokingly referred to himself as “Movie Star.”

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Sandifer of Franklinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Sandra Sandifer of the Plainview Community and Ronnie and Regina Sandifer of Covington; a daughter and son-in-law, Burnettie and Hank Chiro of Hammond; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three stepsons and spouses, Lerand and Denise Hunt of Franklinton, Rainey and Martha Hunt of Auburntown, Tenn., and Shane Hunt of Lebanon, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Miley Sandifer; his parents, John Sandifer and Burnettie Barber Sandifer; a sister, three brothers and granddaughter, Lisa Lopez.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 1 at Crain Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Elder Mason Miley and Elder Lerand Hunt officiating. Burial followed in the Miley Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Johnny Sandifer, John Paul Burglass, Gavin Dean, Damien Urquhart, Justin Gonzales and Jimmy Breland.
