BROWN

George Lewis Brown Sr., 93, a resident of Franklinton, died after 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Riverside Medical Center. Born Nov. 30, 1919, he was a 1937 graduate of Franklinton High School and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton. George, a 20-year veteran of the United States Navy, was a pharmacist during his service, which spanned all of World War II. He retired in 1958 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. After his retirement from the Navy, he continued his education and later became a science teacher in Franklinton. He retired from the school system as the guidance counselor at Franklinton High School. He was at one time active in the Boy Scouts, and later became a charter member of the National World War II Museum.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Earle Lewis Brown and Donna Brown of Gaithersburg, Md., and George Lewis Brown Jr. and Sandra G. Brown of Covington; four grandchildren and spouses, Scott Brown of Pearl River, Paul and Rachelle Brown of Covington, Kelly and Luis Alvarado of Covington and Stephanie Brown of Simi Valley, Calif.; six great-grandchildren, Luis M. Alvarado, Madelynn Alvarado, Isabelle Brown, Emily Brown, Caroline Brown and Rayley Brown; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Brown of Jackson, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Ruth Greenlaw Brown; his parents, George Dickerson Brown and Frankie Bickham Brown; and his brother, Earle R. Brown Sr.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Crain Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Paul Watts officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Ellis Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Earle Brown, Lewis Brown, Scott Brown, Paul Brown, Robbie Brown, Luis Alvarado and John Louis Daniel.
