Franklinton defeats Jewel Sumner

Franklinton defeated Jewel Sumner 52-47 at home Monday to begin the 2013 campaign.

Haley Sellers scored a game-high 22 points, while teammate Chelsea Armand tallied 11. Lana Thomas finished with eight and Tyeishia Anders added six with Amber Carter at five.

Ben’s Ford edges Prentiss Christian

Ben’s Ford’s Christian School evened its record with a 37-34 victory over Prentiss Christian School at home Monday.

Savannah Smith was the Lady Eagles’ leading scorer with 18.

Ben’s Ford was 1-1 at press time.

Pine tops Varnado

Pine scored five points over the final 15 seconds to record a 50-47 season-opening victory over Varnado at home Monday.

Trailing 47-45, Pine’s Laken Breedlove tied things with a shot and got fouled. She missed the free throw, but got the rebound, passed it to Nyxavion Robertson, who hit the shot, was fouled and converted the 3-point play. She led the Lady Raiders with 21 points. Breyanna Brown tallied 18.

Varnado’s Tarralyn Moses led the Lady Wildcats with 19 points, while Erielle Steward finished with 14 and Breanna Holmes scored six.

Ben’s Ford falls to Sacred Heart

Ben’s Ford lost to Sacred Heart 33-25 in Friday ‘s road game.

Savannah Smith scored 10 points to lead the Lady Eagles.

Varnado defeats Pine in overtime

Varnado’s Nick Darden made a steal and the go-ahead layup with four seconds left, helping the Wildcats get past Pine 83-82 in overtime Monday at Pine.

After Darden’s layup, the Wildcats made a steal and ran out the clock to secure the victory. Darden recorded 12 points off of the bench.

The game was close throughout. Pine began to open the game and got up by 11 with about 2:30 left in regulation. Varnado came back and forced overtime with the teams even at 74-74.

D.J. Jefferson led Varnado with 19, Dominique Harry put up 17. Keith Allen totaled 13 and Damon Kirsh finished with 10.

Pine’s Ty Galloway led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, which included six from beyond the arc. Hunter Cooper had 15, while Trey Cooper totaled 12.

Ben’s Ford comes up short against Prentiss Christian

Ben’s Ford Christian School suffered a 48-41 loss to Prentiss Christian at home Monday.

KeDarius Peters topped the Eagles with 14 points.

The Eagles were 1-1 at press time.

Ben’s Ford victorious in overtime

Ben’s Ford Christian School started the season by defeating Sacred Hart 43-40 in overtime on the road Friday.

Peyton Robbins paced the Eagles with 14 points.
