Clifford Eugene Sanspree

Clifford Eugene Sanspree, 79, a resident of Franklinton born Dec. 13, 1933, died early Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at his home. He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and a deacon at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Cliff was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps with 22 years of service where he served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War and several more overseas assignments. He was active in the American Legion and had retired from Exxon-Mobil. Cliff enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a special friend, his pet dog Dusty.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Reba Lynn Sanspree of Franklinton; six children and spouses, Eugenia Biancucci of Medford, Ore., Renee’ and Floyd Pitzer of Franklinton, Clifford Eugene Sanspree Jr. and Tammy Sanspree of Portland, Tenn., Donna and Steve Best, Kevin Sanspree and Marinena and Jim Gay, all of Rochester, N.Y.; a stepdaughter and spouse, Annette and Jackie Pruett of Abernant, Ala.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and Lafayette Sewell of Atmore, Ala. and Patricia and Horace Hobbs of Lillian, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Sanspree and Beatrice Hammac Sanspree, and a stepdaughter, Tammy Denice Curren.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 18 at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Voss and Dr. Gene Richards officiating. Burial will follow in the veterans’ plot of Ponemah Cemetery.
