Pine didn’t fare well in its final regular season game, as the Lady Raiders suffered a 25-7, 25-2, 25-6 road loss to Archbishop Hannan in District 3-IV play Tuesday.

It was the second time the teams met, and the Lady Hawks (18-21, 4-4) proved to be a tough matchup for Pine, which was unable to reach double figures in any of the six games.

“We knew coming in it was going to be a hard game,” Pine coach Jennifer Hughes said. “I did expect better though, because we played better against Pope John Paul, and Pope John Paul is a higher ranked team than what Archbishop Hannan was. I did expect us to play better, so I’m a little disappointed in what we came out and showed tonight.”

Pine got off to a rough start in the opening two games, as Hannan began with the first 16 points in each.

Pine had trouble stopping Hannan’s only senior Hannah Naquin, who had several kills in both of the 16-0 runs.

Pine got on the board in the opening set when Haley Cabeceiras, who had five aces in the first contest, hit the net on a serve.

Hannan maintained the 16-point margin at 19-3 when Pine scored four in a row to close the gap to 19-7. Monique Roublow tallied an ace during the spurt.

The Lady Hawks came back and sealed the victory by scoring six consecutive points to close out the first game. Cabeceiras scored the game’s final point with a kill.

Things got tougher for Pine in the second game. After the 16-point run to begin, the Lady Raiders scored before Hannan put up three straight.

Roublow’s kill made it 18-2, but the Lady Hawks finished with seven straight to go up by two games.

Pine started playing better the third game.

Hannan took a 2-0 lead. Hannan won a long rally on its second point, but Pine’s Rachael Williams made it tough on the Lady Hawks, deflecting two kill attempts back to Hannan.

The Lady Raiders put up two straight and evened things at 2-2.

Hannan scored seven in a row to grab a 9-2 lead before Pine broke serve. Hannan got up 11-3 before Pine put up two in a row, and it was 11-5.

The Lady Hawks scored 14 of the game’s final 15 points for the 25-6 victory.
