KENNEDY

Vera Crain Kennedy, 90, a resident of the Stateline Community, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at her home. She was born Aug. 24, 1923, and was a lifelong resident of Washington Parish.

She was a charter member of Forest Haven Missionary Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and attending all the services she could.

She retired as housekeeping supervisor with Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton with 20 years of service. Vera was worthy matron of the Pine Chapter of the Eastern Star in 1963. She was always a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Donald Paxton of Watson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Janice Kennedy and Charles and Judy Kennedy, all of Stateline; five grandchildren and spouses, Dana and Kevin Calbert, Gwen and Dewayne Magee, Chad Kennedy, Matt and Juliana Kennedy and Jared and Kristy Kennedy; 12 great-grandchildren, Kirk Calbert, Kate Calbert, Jade Kennedy, Erin Kennedy, Courtney Kennedy, Nick Kennedy, Dylan Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy, Patrick Magee, Andrew Magee, Ryan Magee and Zach Davis; five sisters, Nell Corkern of Metairie, Ruth Kennedy of Angie, Mary Borde, Willene Adams and Wilda Bufkin, all of Bogalusa; and one brother, Shelton Crain of Covington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D. Ray Kennedy; parents, Robert Willis Crain and Lutie Knight Crain; three sisters, Patsy Crain, Agnes Ard and Vert Breland; and two brothers, Wilson Crain and Carl Ray Crain.

Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5-9 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home and will continue Friday from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Elder Richard Magee, Elder Clyde Cooper and the Rev. Patrick Magee officiating. Burial will follow in the Kennedy Cemetery at Stateline.
