FORTENBERRY

H. D. “Buck” Fortenberry, 88, a resident of Bogalusa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

He was born in Tylertown, Miss., on May 30, 1925. He was member of First Baptist Church, and a veteran who served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Magic City American Legion Post 24, and a retiree from the Gaylord Container Corp. in Bogalusa. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria H. Fortenberry; one daughter, Patricia Ann Fortenberry Pickard; his parents, Dolan Henry Fortenberry and Zellie Blackwell Fortenberry.

He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Simmons; two sons, Alan Wayne (LuAnne) Fortenberry and Mark Henry Fortenberry, both of Bogalusa; six grandchildren, Heath (Veronica) Fortenberry, Jeremy (Carmen) Fortenberry, Gretchen (Daniel) Mathews, Mark Wayne (Lauren) Fortenberry, Chris Fitzmorris and Dusty Fitzmorris; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 18 at First Baptist Church from 6 – 9 p.m., and will continue on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., when the Rev. Greg Whaley and the Rev. Bob Adams will officiate the funeral service. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens. Magic City American Legion Post 24 will conduct military graveside services.
