David Frank Bartels, 57, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center.

David was a kind, giving and compassionate person who will surely be missed by his family and friends. He was a pipe welder, and a former correctional officer at Rayburn Correctional Center, where he worked for 14 years.

He is survived by one sister, Gretchen (Craig) Thomas; one brother, Marc (Laurie) Bartels of Trophy Club, Texas; a niece, Lindsey Thomas of Houston; three nephews, Adam Thomas, Michael (Chelsea) Bartels of Denton, Texas, and Brian (Cayla) Bartels of Austin, Texas; and a great niece, Miriam Bartels of Denton.

His parents, Chester Frank and Claire Weathersby Bartels, and a brother, John Weathersby Bartels, preceded him in death.

In keeping with his true nature of giving, David donated his body to science. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Bogalusa.
