Eugene Tate

Eugene Tate, born to the late John Tate and Annie L. Johnson Tate on Nov. 3, 1946 in Sunnyhill, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.

Eugene united with St. John Temple COGIC at an early age under the leadership of Elder Doyle Bickham. He later united with Magee Temple COGIC under the leadership of Supt. Monroe Magee and Supt. Cecealine Tate. He later united with Faith in the Word Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Jacob Tate and remained faithful until his health began to failed him.

Eugene was married to Idella Dillon, and to this union two children were born. Eugene attended Washington Parish High School.

He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Shelia Dorsey of New Orleans and Sherry Thompson of Oakland, Calif.; two sons, Felix Miller of Bogalusa and Michael Tate of New Orleans; three grandchildren; three brothers, Jessie “Jimmy” Tate of American Canyon, Calif., John Tate of Richmond, Calif. and James Tate of Franklinton; one sister, Tammy Steward of Richmond; three aunts, Rosia Tate and Maudine Conerly of Franklinton and Doris Johnson of St. Louis, Mo.; one uncle, Charles Johnson of New Orleans; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Tate and Annie Johnson; one brother, Cleveland; and one sister, Annie Bell Tate.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 11 from 2-7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton. The funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jacob Tate officiating. Interment will be held in Greenback Cemetery.
