KERN

Ralph Bernard Kern, 92, a resident of Franklinton, died at 6:34 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1920, and was baptized as a Seventh Day Adventist. He enjoyed traveling, and he was a man who loved the outdoors, especially gardening and hunting. He was the last survivor of seven siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jo Jane Bond Magee Kern of Franklinton; two daughters, Theresa Magee (A.J.) Cashio of Durango, Colo., and Carmella Hebert of Marrero; two stepsons, Ray (Diane) Magee of Baton Rouge and Philip Magee (Cammie) Magee of Franklinton; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Stephen Hebert and Patsy Wayne Hebert and Lisa, David Hebert, Geralyn Sammartino, Terry Mutter, Michael Magee and Dominique, Dr. Michael Magee Thiaville, Jimmy Magee and Sarah Magee; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Taylor of Franklinton and Alice Kern of Reece, Mich.

His parents, Bernhardt and Christiana Bauer Kern, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 11 at Crain Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Percy Mac Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in the Fisher Cemetery.
