Mile Branch quilters: piecing together an heirloom work of art

Mile Branch unveiled the 2013 quilt at its September meeting held at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds.

This year’s quilt is titled “Spinning Stars,” and the top was made by Pennslyvannia Amish quilters. After the fair last year, it was hand-quilted by Washington Parish’s Becky Creel.

The quilt will be displayed in the hallway of the Sylvest Cabin where visitors can purchase raffle tickets for $1 each or six for $5. Proceeds from the raffle help perserve history by maintaining Mile Branch Settlement. The parlor of the Sylvest Cabin will also have on display the quilt that will be raffled at the 2014 Washington Parish Free Fair.

To buy tickets in advance, contact Margarite Lipani at 839-4410. In addition, Sue Macias is seeking volunteers to work for two hour shifts doing hand-work and sharing historical information with visitors. Contact her at 839-5650 for more information.ꊢ
