The National Sheriffs’ Association selected Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal to attend the 104th session of the National Sheriffs’ Institute, which was held in Aurora, Colo., last week. Seal was one of only 25 first-term sheriffs from throughout the United States who were chosen.

NSI is the only executive leadership program developed specifically for sheriffs. The small group of sheriffs, who represent a cross section of the nation, worked together in intense training sessions over a seven-day period dealing with topics essential to the leadership role of the sheriff within the criminal justice system and the community.

“I am pleased to have been selected to attend this unique training event for sheriffs,” Seal said. “This is another step in our overall effort to improve the Office of Sheriff in Washington Parish and to be able to provide the level of service that our citizens deserve.”

WPSO Chief Deputy Mike Haley also commented.

“This is a great honor for our sheriff and for Washington Parish,” he said.

“Sheriffs from throughout the United States are eligible for this unique training event, but only a few are selected based on their leadership.

“Sheriff Seal has made a name for himself with the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association and the National Sheriffs’ Association as a leader in law enforcement. Through his efforts on the state and national level, Washington Parish is gaining recognition as a leader in law enforcement.”

Seal’s expenses to attend the National Sheriff’s’ Institute event were paid by the National Sheriffs’ Association through a Department of Justice grant.
