Mt. Hermon suffered a 36-32 loss to Ridgewood Friday night at Jefferson Playground in Metairie.

Trailing 36-26, the Yellow Jackets (0-2) scored with about four minutes left when D.J. Elzey hit Logan McGregor to make it 36-32.

Elzey was 4 for 8 for 93 yards and three scores in the game. McGregor caught two touchdown passes, and James Roberts had the other.

Mt. Hermon tried an onside kick after its final score, but Ridgewood recovered and ran out the clock.

The Yellow Jackets were hurt by three lost fumbles in the first half, which led to Ridgewood (1-1) grabbing a 22-12 halftime lead.

“I’m proud of our guys,” Mt. Hermon coach Henry Crawford said. “They fought hard. We still have to overcome the mistakes inflicted by us. It wasn’t like they ripped the ball out on the fumbles. One was a bad pitch, one was a good pitch we dropped and the other was a miscue between the quarterback and fullback.”

Lamont Brownridge got the Yellow Jackets on the board with a 66-yard run to make it 6-0. Ridgewood then scored 22 straight points before Brownridge ripped off a 52-yard run, trimming it to 22-12 by halftime.

Mt. Hermon tallied twice in the third to grab a 26-22 lead, but Ridgewood put up 14 points in a row before the Yellow Jackets cut back into the lead.

Brownridge finished the game with 168 yards on 12 carries.

Mt. Hermon’s next contest is against Crescent City Friday.
