Several students from Varnado High School were recent visitors to the Sims Library at Southeastern Louisiana University.

The English 101 dual enrollment students toured the library and were taught by head librarian Dayne Sherman how to use college resources available to them. The students were allowed to check out books and learned how to use the research databases, microfilm and other library offerings to find sources for the papers they will be required to write throughout the coming year.

Dual enrollment students must meet certain grade and ACT requirements. They will earn college credit, up to 18 hours, while they are still in high school that will count toward their college degree.

This year 12 VHS students are enrolled in the English 101 Dual Enrollment class through Southeastern. They will have to fulfill all the requirements of high school English, while also fulfilling the requirements for English 101. Other dual enrollment classes are offered at Varnado High School and at schools throughout the parish.
