KENNEDY

Derrell Kennedy, 68, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at 8:15 a.m. at his home in Slidell on the Pearl River at Indian Village.

Born March 16, 1945, he formerly worked in construction and was a veteran of both the United States Navy and Army. Derrell was a loving father and grandfather and an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time on the river with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Toney Kennedy of Franklinton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina and Austin Varnado of Franklinton and Jill Kennedy Nelson of Cedar Springs, Mich.; five grandchildren, Devyn Thomas, Keyton Varnado, Ethyn Varnado, Justin Nelson and Danyll Kennedy Nelson; a brother and sister-in-law, Dewitt and Nelda Kennedy of Union, Miss.; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Adeline Morel, Faye Herring and Patricia Farve, all of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Jo Ann Tully of Kiln, Miss., and Glenda and Ron Kozak of Bradenton, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha O. Kennedy and Elsie Breland Kennedy, and two sisters, Olga Gilpin and Arlie Klien.

In keeping with Derrell’s wishes, he was cremated and his remains will be scattered near his home.

A memorial service was held for family and friends on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Crain Funeral Home, 1109 Bene St., Franklinton. Visitation began Saturday at 2 p.m. and continued until the memorial service began at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Denny Brumfield officiating.
