CUMMINGS

Roberta Spikes Cummings, 69, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at her son’s home in Port Orchard, Wash., after fighting a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Angie on May 1, 1944. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Bogalusa. She proudly served in the U.S. Army as an officer.

Roberta retired as a law librarian and assistant professor at Southern University and JROTC instructor at Glen Oaks High School. She was a devoted member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Emile Cummings II and his wife, Kristie, of Port Orchard; and her grandchildren, Horace J. Wilson of Birmingham, Ala., and Joseph E. Cummings III and Karrington Rae Cummings, both of Port Orchard. Her parents, Curtis Spikes Sr. and Willie Mae Spikes, and a daughter, Alicia Cummings, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Greater King David Multicultural and Education Center in Baton Rouge.
