Bowling Green got its season under way by splitting a pair of games at the Central Private Jamboree Friday.

The teams played a pair of 10-minute halves with a running clock until the final two minutes, when they played under the standard rules.

Bowling Green began by falling to Silliman Institute, 19-6. The Buccaneers rebounded the second game by blanking Baton Rouge Homeschool, 30-0.

In the opener, Bowling Green scored on a Hayden Thompson 60-yard run.

Silliman scored on a pick six, along with a run and a pass.

Bowling Green coach Carmon Moore said his team didn’t play well in the first game, but he credited his offensive line for its play. He added that quarterback Connor McCain got off to a shaky start but rebounded and played well.

Moore said in the second game, they played their backups everywhere except at quarterback because second stringer Trent Ball has an injury.

The defense put up points when Colby Powell returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown. Moore said Cody Morris and Trevor May also played well defensively.

Offensively, Grant Alexander ran for a pair of touchdowns, while Nick Casanova added another. Moore said both players ran the ball well.

The Bucs also scored on a two-point conversion with McCain hitting Logan Wood.

Bowling Green begins the regular season Friday when the Bucs travel to face Columbia Academy.
