MEEHAN

Ruth Elizabeth Redmond Meehan was a mother of six, a friend to many and loved by all who knew her. She taught by example and spent 70 years in a marriage built on the foundation of commitment.

Ruth Elizabeth Redmond was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Ogdensburg, N.Y., to Herman and Mabel Redmond. At the age of 20, having known each other since grade school, Ruth Redmond married Tom Meehan and they set out on an adventure that would last a lifetime.

Ruth raised six kids while criss-crossing the country from upstate New York to Camas, Wash., in the Pacific Northwest, back to New York and to Bogalusa in the Deep South. They lived in Clatskanie, Ore., for two years and then settled and retired in Camas. She was a devoted wife and mother who always focused on helping those who needed it most and encouraged all of her children toward success. She will be missed but never forgotten.

Ruth’s journey through life came to an end Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, just 16 days short of her 91st birthday. She was greeted at the gates of heaven by the love of her life, Tom Meehan Sr.; two of her sons, Tom Meehan Jr. and Richard William Meehan; and granddaughter, Caitlin Marie Merrill.

She leaves behind a brother, Douglas Redmond; a son, John Hamilton Meehan; and three daughters, Ruth Ellen Meehan Aller, Colleen Patricia (Meehan) Duggan and Erin Meehan Breen. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held for family only as she and Tom are reunited in upstate New York where their journey in life began.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House, 2112 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA, or to the Albertina Kerr Center for Children in Portland, Ore.

Services have been entrusted to Brown’s Funeral Home, 410 N.E. Garfield in Camas.
