During the first Bogalusa City Council meeting of every month the various supervisors get a chance to let everyone know what’s been happening in their departments, and there are generally long reports of the work accomplished during the prior month.

This month was no exception, but besides the regular accounts of arrests, fire calls, filled potholes and the status of sales tax collections, the talk covered movies, a new playground, jobs and lights at the airport.

George R. Carr Memorial Airport Manager Louis Busby said he had just received lights for the south end of the runway as well as the capability for pilots to turn the lights on. Installation of the equipment is expected to take place within the next couple of weeks.

He also reported the owner of an Arizona company who had just purchased a fleet of new planes stopped at the Bogalusa airport to refuel a couple of them and was so pleased with the service he vowed to come back through with the rest.

Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture Landon Tims said that a new owner is about to reopen the deli in Cassidy Park. The building will soon be moved a few feet to a new location in front of the tennis courts and turned to face Willis Avenue.

The pieces of a new playground that will be erected in the vicinity of the Ingram Pavilion have arrived, and installation is scheduled to start on Aug. 19, he said.

Tims also announced that the next Family Movie Night will take place in the park on Friday, July 19. The feature, back by popular demand, will be “Wreck-It Ralph,” he said.

Everyone is encouraged to pack up lawn chairs and family members and enjoy the showing in the lush outdoor setting. The movie will start at 8 p.m., and admission is $1.

Director of Public Works James Hall said crews are working to prepare the old Sitel building in the Industrial Park for the arrival of General Dynamics Information Systems, due to move in Aug. 1. Mayor Charles Mizell said anyone who wants to apply for a job there can visit www.gdit.com and click on “careers.”
