Lighting candles for LSU

Tommie Jean Rayburn, representing the LSU Bogalusa Medical Center, lights 11 birthday candles on a “Thank you” cake to LSU for mentoring the local hospital, shoring it up financially and medically and ensuring that the standard procedure for patients was best practices. On June 22, 2002, Bogalusa Community Medical Center and the Washington-St. Tammany Regional Hospital combined to be managed under the umbrella of LSU Health Science Center. It is anticipated that the union will be in effect for only 11 and 1/2 years in that the Franciscan Missionaries of our Lady of the Lake, headquartered in Baton Rouge, will be the new owners of the medical services being provided for the parish and region. The planned date of the changeover is Jan. 6, 2014 (Epiphany).
