BLACKWELL

Anna Lee Blackwell, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, went home to her heavenly Father Tuesday, July 2, 2013. She was known for her loving and compassionate care for all those she came in contact with throughout her life of 90 years. She was a retired nurse and a loving wife to two husbands. She was married to Joe Byrd for 51 years, and to Gene Blackwell for 16 years. She was known as “grandma” to many in the community over the years and was loved by too many to count. A member of Palestine Baptist Church, she was a very blessed lady who lived every day of her life for her Lord.

She is survived by one son, John E. (Martine) Byrd of Houston; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Byrd (Ed) Blackwell of Bogalusa; six grandchildren, David (Katherine) Byrd of Baton Rouge, Rebecca (Adam) Kemp of Bogalusa, Holley (Norman) Hobbs of Katy, Texas, Sarah (Menko) Thompson of Pioneer, Christopher Byrd of Baton Rouge and Jennifer (Allen) Turner of Grosse Tete; 15 great-grandchildren, Luke, Olivia and Aubrie Kemp, Douglas and Victoria Byrd, Christian, Seth, Jacob, Carly, Peyton and Lauren Thompson, Cody and Caitlyn Hobbs and Beaux and Adrianna Turner. Two very special cousins, Danny and Sara Hawthorne, also survive her.

In addition to her husbands, a son, Kendall Byrd, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 5 at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 4-8:30 p.m., with funeral services on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Ed Jenkins and the Rev. Fred Brumfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Pierce Cemetery in Sun.
