HARTZOG

John Melvin Hartzog, 75, a resident of Bogalusa, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Louisiana Heart Hospital in Lacombe.

Born on May 21, 1937 in Walthall County, Miss., he served in the United States Army Reserve. He was a member and Past Master of the Zona Lodge 337.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Pounds Hartzog; two daughters, Shannon (Craig) Seal and Lu Anne (Alan) Fortenberry; one son, Guy Melvin Hartzog; two sisters, Clara Hartzog and Linda Stringer; three brothers, Charlie Ben Hartzog, Felder Hartzog and Tony Breland; seven grandchildren, James Christian Seal, John Cory Seal, Keshia (Paul) Williams, Annedriea Hartzog, Heath (Veronica) Fortenberry, Jeremy (Carmen) Fortenberry and Gretchen (Daniel) Matthews; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. A. Hartzog and Stella Cotton Hartzog; two sisters, Daisey Thomas and Letha Gray; a brother, Daniel Lucious Hartzog.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 17 at Ben’s Ford Baptist Church at 5:30 p.m., with a funeral service at 7 p.m. On Saturday, a committal service will be held at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Ben’s Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.
