BRUMFIELD
Max Oliver Brumfield Jr., 74, a resident of Franklinton, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington.
Born April 24, 1938, he was a veteran of the United States Navy during the early years of the Vietnam Era and a member of the USS Helena Organization, which was the battleship he was stationed on. Max was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Baker, Grand Lodge of Louisiana 441, the American Legion Post 113, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7196. He was also a longtime deputy with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office under several administrations and retired after nearly 40 years of service to his community.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Erwin Brumfield of Franklinton; a daughter and son-in-law, Karmen and Ben Poole of Zachary; a son and daughter-in-law, Max Brumfield III and Risha of Zachary; a sister, Martha Ann Brumfield Davis of Franklinton; three grandsons, Dustin Brumfield, Derek Brumfield and Thomas Poole; four great-granddaughters, Sheena Poole, Samantha Poole, Abby Brumfield Jones and Mattie Brumfield; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue Erwin and Holyne Roberts of Franklinton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, Max O. Brumfield Sr. and Matalee Phares Brumfield, preceded him in death.
Visitation was held Saturday, April 20 at Crain Funeral Home from 5:30-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Sunday from noon until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Denny Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
