Franklinton hangs on against Central

Franklinton’s Demons held off Central of Baton Rouge and upped their winning streak to 13 Thursday with a 9-8 victory.

Franklinton (14-5, 5-0) led 9-4 after 6.5 innings, but Central closed the gap with four in the seventh.

Demons’ coach Jeff Tageant is just two wins away from 400. Franklinton hosts Lakeshore at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. If the Demons win that game, he would go for No. 400 Thursday at Pearl River.

Terrance Robinson went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Landon Magee finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kevin Simmons doubled and drove in two. Austin Armand reached base twice with a single and on catcher’s interference while also driving in a run. Morgan Angelo reached base four out of five times with a single, a walk and twice on errors. Josh Magee also had an RBI.

Ben’s Ford gets big win over Lamar

Ben’s Ford made it five straight with another lopsided victory Thursday, this time an 8-0 shutout over Lamar on the road.

Ben’s Ford began the weekend 9-5 overall and is 6-0 in District 8-5A play for the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.

Entering yesterday’s game, the Eagles had outscored their last five opponents by a combined 70-6.

Winning pitcher Brian Hines threw four innings of two-hit ball with six strikeouts and a walk. At the plate he finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in.

Cody Stewart hit a solo homer. Destin Pittman posted two hits and two RBIs, while Josh Crain recorded a pair of hits. Cole Edwards and Shelby Culpepper both had one hit and an RBI.
