Pine loses doubleheader
Pine’s Lady Raiders suffered a 12-4 and 11-7 doubleheader sweep to Doyle at home Tuesday. Pine is 3-6. The Lady Raiders allowed six runs in the first inning of the first game. In the second, Doyle was the home team. Pine jumped to a 7-0 lead in the third. Doyle came back and evened things 7-7. Errors allowed the lead run to reach base.
FHS goes 2-1 in tourney
Franklinton went 2-1 in the Jewel Sumner Tournament last Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Demons opened play with a 14-4 victory over Episcopal in five innings. FHS scored seven runs during the final frame to seal the win.
Brittney Burch went 3-4 with a double and a run batted in. Ragen Chauvin doubled twice, drove in one and scored three times. Pitcher Darrien Dykes helped herself offensively with two hits. She also threw all five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Baylee Mixon and Carley Shipley both singled and drove in a run. Kristen Capo and Laken Spears had an RBI each.
They played two Saturday, losing the first one 11-4 against Springfield before rebounding for a 13-5 win against the host school.
Springfield broke a 4-4 tie with a seven-run sixth for the win.
FHS’ Haley Sanford singled twice and drove in a run, while Austen Felder tripled with three RBIs. Burch, Capo and Chauvin all singled. Dykes was tagged with the loss.
Against Sumner, FHS pounded out 20 hits and overcame seven errors. The Lady Demons scored in every inning except the third.
The balanced offensive attack saw five players put up three hits, led by Chauvin, who also drove in three runs. Capo, Dykes and Felder singled three times each and drove in a run apiece. Mixon doubled and singled twice. Sanford and Shipley both put up a pair of singles and drove in a run, while Burch singled and logged an RBI.
Winning pitcher Dykes tossed the complete game, allowing just three hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
